Journal #4

I have been an avid Tweeter since the sixth grade when I made my very first Twitter account (a monumental occasion in any millennial's life). From high school drama, to internet memes, to Donald Trump's infamous tweets; my Twitter thumbs have seen it all. This class however, provides a way for me to see Twitter in a different light, allowing me to use the notorious app for educational purposes rather than just for my own social life or personal enjoyment. Through my EME2040 account I am able to follow fellow classmates and discuss class content and ask questions in areas I am struggling. This transforms Twitter from a meme machine to a tool I can use to help further my knowledge of educational technology. In my future career Twitter will be helpful because it is a great method of communication between classmates and teachers. I will use Twitter to distribute information to my students in a way that is culturally relevant to them while still being an efficient tool for me.

The digital divide occurs between the population of people who are from generations that were raised being tech savvy or were close enough to this time period where they quickly adjusted and those who are not quite as with the times when it comes to technology. This can become an issue in classrooms because often times teachers who are not familiar with the technology they are using to present their lessons will not be able to teach their planned lesson smoothly and without interruptions. If I had a dollar for every time one of my teachers struggled to get a YouTube video or a DVD to work I would be rich rich woman. The problem with this is that much of classroom time is being wasted spent trying to understand how to work this technology and students are not getting all the time for learning they deserve. As a teacher I will make sure to always be knowledgable of the technology I am using and try to always have a back-up plan in case something goes wrong. This way I am not cheating my students of any learning time.

In my classroom I would incorporate as many software's as possible because I believe technology is the future and the better educated my students are in technology the more successful they will be. Personally, I would like to include the use of Google Classroom into my classes. This is because after volunteering in Leon County School District last semester, I saw first hand how helpful of a tool this was for both teachers and students.
